Templates - not working

Hi there,
I have 2 PC's.
I have saved a template (name = Ref) as Macro-enabled Template.
On the first PC, it will open the template as Ref1, and I have it set to default save as Macro-enabled Workbook - All perfect.

On the Second PC, the exact same Excel setup (as far as I can see), it will open the Template as Ref (which allows the user to overwrite the template , and it ignores the Save as option setup in File, options, Save...)

Has anyone any ideas ?

I am stuck.
Thanks
Monica

RE: Templates - not working

Hi,

This seems it is related with your previous question. There, I mentioned something for default action when clicking some file. And I think you have this problem now. On your second PC, probably the default action is Open. If this is the problem, you have two options:

 1) right-click on the file and choose New every time when you use your template.

 2) permanent change of default clicking action.

For second option see this:

HOW TO: Change the Default Action for a File Type in Windows XP

I can not provide a link for Windows 7 because I could not find so perspicuous review article such as the above. There is some information in various forums which is concludes in the following (you must be familiar with the Registry Editor):

 1) Open the Registry Editor.

 2) Navigate to:

 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Excel.TemplateMacroEnabled\shell

 3) Modify (Default) value of shell's key to, in your case, New. Probably the current value is Open.

On my PC there is also:

 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Excel.Template\shell

and

 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Excel.Template.8\shell

You can check them too if you want.

Best regards.

Thank you

Thank you so much....
I was about to lose my mind on this.
It worked.
