How to Fix “Excel 2013 has stopped working” Error Message

I am a regular user of MS Excel and my complete work is dependent upon it. Recently, I have encountered an error with it, and it was 'Excel 2013 has stopped working'. Every time, I opened Excel, it crashed, and gave me this error. It annoyed me a lot, and I have decided to resolve it by myself. Here, I am describing the solution steps, which I have followed to fix this error.

Change your Default Printer:

This is the very common reason of Excel crash, as whenever we start MS Excel it automatically starts to communicate with the default printer, to identify margins. If this communication fails then Excel crashes and shows such error. To resolve it, you just need to change the default printer.

To change the default printer in windows, Go to start button->Control panel->"Devices and Printers"->Set as default printer.

Install Printer Driver again:

It happened with me when I bought a new printer, and installed a corrupt driver from Internet. It may be possible that the same issue is happening with your driver, a corrupt driver starts to corrupt all associated programs. This may also be a big reason of Excel corruption. To fix it, you need to uninstall your printer's driver and reinstall it again. Most of the times, it will solve your issue and your Excel starts working.

Change the user mode as Administrator:

One of my friends tried this solution to resolve his issue, so I thought; maybe it will also work for you. You need to start your system with administrator account. At times, we need to do some work for which the admin permission is required.

To start your PC as an administrator, right click to the application on start menu and select 'Open as Administrator'. Now use Excel as you want to.

Start Excel in Safe Mode:

The above solutions do not work every time. Some issues are not related to printer and we need to solve them according to their requirements. With Excel 2013, I have also experienced add-in problems. At times, add-ins are also a reason for Excel crash. In case the above solution is able to fix Excel error, you can also try this, maybe it will work

To fix such error, open your Excel in Safe Mode, so that it would not open with any application, which may crash it. After that, we can remove add-ins. To start, press Windows key + R key, it will open a 'Run Window'. In the text box type 'Excel.exe /safe', now go to file menu and click 'Options', now click 'Add-ins'. There is a 'Manager' option available on the bottom part; chose 'COM Add-ins' click to 'Go' and you will see the list of 'add-ins'

Now un-check all the buttons and restart the application. In case you want any application to start with Excel, just check the button.

Repairing Process:

If your Excel file is damaged or corrupt, then you have to perform a repairing process, to fix the issue. MS Office offers you an option for repair; you just need to select that. To choose the repair option, open Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Microsoft Office 2013 and click 'Change'. A window will open, where you can select repair and start the process.

Re-installation:

This is the best and easiest way to fix all the issues with any software. Most of the users try this to fix their software issues. You can also try this, may be this will make your software error free. Microsoft has an option of un-installation, you just need to click it, and it will un-install. After this process, you can now install a fresh MS office and start working.

You can try any of the above steps to repair Excel.
